The Symptoms of Gonorrhea
Gonorrhea is one of the STDs that is actually more noticeable in men. Although both sexes can have symptoms that are indicative of a problem, with Gonorrhea a male is more likely to notice it and seek out medical attention.
Some of the Gonorrhea symptoms that a man may have include:
* A noticeable discharge from the penis. This is one of the most important Gonorrhea symptoms and shouldn’t be ignored. Any discharge coming from the urethra needs to be checked.
* A feeling of burning when urinating. Although this can be an indicator that something else is amiss, it can be a symptom of Gonorrhea.
Some of the Gonorrhea symptoms that a woman may have include:
* A yellowish discharge from the vagina. Many women will mistakenly attribute this Gonorrhea symptom to a yeast infection and with all the over the counter products that are available, she may seek out her own treatment. It’s always important to have a doctor check the discharge to determine the source.
* A burning feeling when urinating. This is another Gonorrhea symptom that can have different causes. Some women feel this when they are suffering from a kidney or bladder infection and will believe that’s the culprit. Again, your doctor is the only one who can get to the root of the problem through testing.
* Bleeding between periods. Any spotting between periods should be looked into. Although often the cause isn’t a real concern, it can be a Gonorrhea symptom.
* If the disease has progressed the Gonorrhea symptoms will be more pronounced. A fever can develop as well as pain in the abdomen. If this is the case, immediate medical care is vital.
In men symptoms will generally be felt within a week after infection. In women that can be much longer.
Not everyone who is infected will have obvious Gonorrhea symptoms. Many people have no symptoms at all and live with the disease for years. It’s advisable for every person who is sexually active to be screened for STDs including Gonorrhea. Once you are diagnosed you can then begin treatment. This is important to not only you but it’s also a consideration to your future sexual partners.
